Cross River extends monthly environmental sanitation exercise to local council areas

The monthly environmental sanitation exercise reintroduced by Senator Bassey Otu’s administration has extended the streets clean-up exercise in Calabar to Local Government Areas in the Central Senatorial District in line with his people first mantra which has robbed-off on the neat environment the State was previously known for,

This is sequel to the unscheduled visit of the state commissioner for environment, Hon. Moses Osogi to Ugeb in Yakkurr and Itigidi in Abi Local Government Areas of the State during the September 28, 2024 sanitation where he lamented non compliance of the people in the mandatory exercise.

Hon. Osogi frowned at the attitude of residents of the areas seen loitering instead of engaging in the exercise. He ordered the arrest and trial of defaulters in mobile courts to serve as deterrent to others.

He issued a directive for a meeting with all Executive Secretaries of the Urban Development Areas in the State this week in Calabar to address the lukewarm attitude of residents in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. According to him, the sanitation exercise is expected to clear the drains to make way for free flow of water to ease flooding given the torrential down pour which has as raked havoc in some parts of the country already.
