Cross River fmr. deputy governor welcomes proposed PDP, LP merger; felicitate Diri over poll win

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State and former deputy governor to Senator Liyel Imoke, Barrister Efiok Cobham has welcome the propose merger of the PDP and Labour party to challenge the All Progressives Party (APC) in 2027 elections.

Cobham barred his mind in a telephone chat with LENS Reporter in Calabar on Thursday November 16, 2023.

He reasoned that since the Apex Court has affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu, the nation must move forward politically and look ahead to the PDP and Labour Party taking over governance in 2027. hence the need for credible opposition formation to bolster the move.

Also, he used the occasion to congratulate Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State for winning the November 11, 2023 polls under the platform of the PDP and urged him to be magnanimous in victory by extending olive branch to opposition parties in the state to bolster development and situate the state appropriately among the committee of states in the South-South geopolitical region which is a domain of the PDP.

Finally, he thanked Prince Bassey Otu the Cross River governor for stepping into the seemingly intractable dispute over the kingship of the Efik Nation and the contention for the Obong of Calabar stool since 2008. He said the truce he brokered among the waring parties and contending factions has put an end to the feud and his call for dialogue will unite the principal actors thus ending speculations, acrimony and dissatisfaction.

He sued for a single, harmonious, peaceful and progressive rulership of the Efik Kingdom.
