Cross River NUJ mourns death of veteran journalist Victor Effiom
The remains of late chief (Dr.) Victor Effiom born in 1942 began home-ward journey on Wednesday April 19, 2023 with the opening of mourning house at his Ibok street residence in Calabar.
The Cross River State chapter chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nsa Gill have described the passing of the former General Manager and retired Director of Properties in the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) as a great loss when his fatherly counsel was needed most.
Gill made the statement during the ceremony moderated by provost of the African Church Cathedral, McDonald Street, Venerable Daniel Ekpenyong in Calabar.
Ekpenyong whose sermon titled “There is life after life” referenced John 14:1-4 “Let not your heart be troubled; Ye believe in God, believe also in me, in my father’s house are many mansions’ if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am, there ye may be also,” said there is hope of a better life with Christ for devout Christians to enjoy eternity with him after death.
He said mentees of the late Chief Victor Effiom should not lament his passing because there is assurance meeting with him again when the trumpet would sound at Christ second coming to take the saints to the mansion He has prepared for believers that would be raptured.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion were the former Deputy Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Barrister Efiok Cobham and Ex-NDDC Commissioner Ntufam Hon. Ekpo Okon among others high-profile attendees.
The progamme continues with a Night of Tribute for the deceased at the NUJ Press Center on Thursday April 20, 2023. In addition, Cultural and Traditional display by Ufok Ekpo Edem Ekpo Effiom Duke from Akpabuyo at his residence as well as Night of Songs at the African Church Cathedral, McDonald Street, Calabar on Friday April 21, 2023 before his interment on Saturday April 22, 2023 in Calabar the Cross River State capital.
