Cross River PPRO assaulted, hospitalized

SP Irene Ugbo, the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations officer has been admitted to the Navy Reference Hospital in Calabar on Friday over injuries she sustained in a case of assault perpetrated by a couple at No. 39 Nsefik Layout, off Marian Road in Calabar.

Her attackers Mr/Mrs. Effiom Nsefik who is now in Police custody said that trouble started when a security dog which does not belong to Irene chased away a visitor to the landlord’s junior brother’s residence on Thursday, August 11 which they say hurt their visitor and blamed her because she feeds and care for it.

started throwing tantrums the previous night because the dog injured their visitor saying she is the person who usually feeds the dog to have the strength to injure people.

An eye witness who spoke to LENS on condition of anonymity disclosed that as Irene was about to go to work in the morning the next day, the wife of the younger brother of the landlord stopped her and ensured she was thoroughly assaulted and sustained injuries on the face, eyes, and knees, the source narrated.

When contacted, DSP Igri Ewa, the Deputy Cross River Police Command PRO confirmed the incident to press men stressing the unfortunate attack on SP Irene Ugbo was unprovoked and assured that the matter has been reported to the highest Police Force Authority and wanted the public to know that no stone would be left unturned in this matter as the law would take its course.
