Cross River SEMA wants collaboration with relevant agencies to douse flooding in the State
As heavy rains continue to rake havoc in the country as earlier predicted by NiMET, the Director General (D.G) of Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Apostle (Dr.) James Anam has revealed that proactive measures have been put in place to mitigate flooding in the state.
Anam while fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday September 24, 2024 appealed to Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) and the Ministry of Environment to collaborate with the agency by sensitizing the public against habitual dumping of refuse into gutters which hampers free flow of water thereby contributing to flooding.
And doubling down, he said adequate measures have been provided in the Southern Senatorial District of the State which falls within the coastal zones in the country and among the flood prone areas in the state.
He also used the occasioned to warn property developers to desist from putting structures along drain channels and stop cutting down trees indiscriminately which serve as wind breakers. He commended the State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu for identifying with the people of Borno State in the recent flood disaster caused by Alau dam burst resulting in loss of lives and properties.
