CSO calls for independent probe into alleged diversion of funds by NIMASA
A coalition of civil society groups has called on the presidency to order an independent investigation into the pending allegations of diversion of public funds against the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
In May 2021, Bashir Jamoh who heads the maritime agency challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the allegations leveled against him that he diverted 1.5 trillion nairas into his account as well as 9.5 million dollars into another account traced to him.
But anti-corruption activists, while addressing journalists in Lagos said the EFCC Has failed to act on the matter.
They ask President Buhari to direct the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offenses Commission – ICPC to take over the investigation from the EFCC
A private national broadcast station has reached out to EFCC for comment but the commission’s spokesperson is yet to revert as at the time of this report.
