Culture and Tourism commissioner in Cross River calls for upgrade of school sports to harvest talents
The Special Guest of Honour at the Government Primary School Ediba 10th Annual Inter-House sports, Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Arch Bishop, Ntufam, Hon. Ekpenyong Iso has called for the upgrade of primary school Inter-House Sport to discover talents who would participate in junior grade sports competitions in the state and country.
Ntufam Iso whose view corroborated with that of the Education Secretary, Calabar Municipal Council at the occasion Mrs. Offiong Offiong, expressed delight at the excellent performance of pupils who participated in the annual event held on Thursday March 30th 2023.
In their separate speeches, the Headmistress and Host, Mrs. Eunice Uno Ethothi and Deputy Head-Teacher/Games Master Mr. Gerald thank-God for the success of the event while the Games Mistress and school secretary Uyu Ephraim described the out-come as awesome.
Overall, Green House emerged tops with 841 points, Blue House came second with 735 points, Yellow House clinched the 3rd position with 706 points, while Purple House came 4th with 586 points and Red House 5th position with 378 points.
Prizes were presented to winners by the Special Guest of Honour and in his closing remarks, the School Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) chairman, Elder Emmanuel Archibong appreciated the enabling environment provided by the school authority for the success of the sports fiesta and thanked invited guests for finding time despite their busy schedule to honour the invitation.
The Hon. Commissioner for Culture and Tourism donated the sum of fifty thousand naira (50,000) to the teachers for their contribution to the actualization of the event which nurtured and groomed future athletes at the grass-root.
The inter-house sports hosted by Government Primary School, Ediba Road, Calabar Municipal Council Area in Cross River State featured field and track events like football matches, 100 meters, 50 meters, 200 meters, 4X100 relay race, parents/teachers race, march pass carnival float, thread the needle and cultural display by the pupils.
