CWG Birmingham 2022: Tobi Amusan defends 100m hurdles gold; inspired Nigeria clinch Women’s 4×100 relay gold, set African record

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has won the gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The reigning world champion and record holder successfully defended her Games title at the Alexander stadium on Sunday morning.

This is coming two weeks after she became the first Nigerian athlete to win a World Athletics Championship gold as she stormed to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles in Oregon.

The 25-year-old obliterated the world record in an astonishing semi-final where she clocked 12.12sec, before winning the final in a wind-assisted 12.06sec.

Nigeria has won the 4x100m women’s relay final of the Commonwealth Games finishing ahead of England and Jamaica, respectively.

Inspired by the world and Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian team won with a new African record of 42.10 seconds.
