Embattled APC chairman in Cross River vows not to relinguish position

The Cross River State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly rumoured to be pressured to step down for his failure to facilitate win for Governor Ben Ayade in the Cross River North Senatorial district poll of February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections has vowed not to bow to pressure to resign from his position by those he described as anti-party agents in APC fold.

Barrister Alphonsus Eba, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said while fielding question from newsmen in Calabar on Friday April 21, that the governor-elect, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu will not repeat the mistake of Governor Ben Ayade by appointing high-profile officials who betrayed him during the Cross River North Senatorial district election he lost to incumbent Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe after collecting huge sums of money to do the needful but insead worked against him and the party.

He describe as perfidy those calling for his resignation stressing they are wasting their time because he will not step down since he has worked by delivering the state to APC 90% at the governorship and state House of Assembly elections producing Prince Otu as governor.

Eba said that Governor Ben Ayade in his kindness tolerated a lot of things and many individuals abused it to the detriment of the party and the man who has kept food on their table for 8 years. He averred that he will not give-in to pressure to resign, positing that those calling for his resignation are blackmailers who will soon be punished for it if found wanting due to the new Slogan he has declared for the in-coming administration which is “Monkey go work, Monkey go chop, Baboon No work, Baboon no chop,” contrary to the subsisting norm “Monkey Dey work, Baboon Dey chop”.

He further said that the delay in payment of March and April salaries of civil servants as well as Local Government Council funds will be released soon as he has appealed to Governor Ban Ayade to do something about it which is not unconnected with the unsavory attitude of some civil servants during the 2023 elections.
