The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, has frowned at what he described as ‘winners take all’ attitude of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.
His outburst according to him, stems from the governor’s habit of taking projects coming to the state to his hometown, in Onna local government council.
Enang, described the act as “politics of gluttony,” as his assertion may not be unconnected with the alleged governor’s quest to corner the recently approved Federal University of Technology to his council area.
He disclosed this to Journalists at a press conference weekend in Uyo, the state capital.
According to him, for justice, fairness, and equity to prevail, the institution should be sited in Eket senatorial district and Ikot Abasi local government in particular, since the are as at today, has no federal government educational institution.
He described the governor’s desire to have the University sited in Onna which already has a Flour Mill, a Syringe Factory, a Plywood Mill, a University Teaching Hospital and the best road network as ‘improper and imprudent’.
Enang stressed that, the governor was elected as the governor of Akwa Ibom state and not the chairman of Onna or Councillor of his ward, adding that, by working to attract development to his home town, the governor was acting in a manner that he could be described as ‘Udomcentric’, ‘Onnacentric’, ‘IMM’ (I,.me and myself), ‘selfcentric’.
Senator Enang noted that, as governor of Akwa Ibom State, his duty was not to think of taking everything home, but should work for the growth of the whole state and not just his council area alone.
He said every person who is in a position of responsibility should know that he is in that position as a trustee of the people and there is a terminal date and when you come out if you don’t face the consequences of your inaction while in office, you would face it after and you would not be able to correct it.
He however thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, the Honourable Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and his Permanent Secretary for making sure Akwa Ibom State was chosen for the virgin University.
According to him, President Buhari was correct when he said, “I belong to nobody, I belong to everybody”, saying that irrespective of the state being controlled by the PDP, the president graciously considered her for the favour.
Enang further disclosed that the Federal government was applying the federal character to spread the Federal Universities to the three Senatorial Districts, a factor which he said, shifted the newly established university to Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.
Reacting to Senator Enang’s stance, the state state commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, described Enang as greedy and myopic, adding that he is seeing the Governnor from his own spectacle.
He said the Presidential aide was the same person who wants development to be taken to his own town, Ididep, in Ibiono local government council.
“The accuser is seeing the Governnor from his own spectacle, a spectacle of myopic greed, he is suffering from strategic amnesia. This is the same person who everything he wants to attract, is for Ididep, not Ibiono, not Uyo Senatorial district. He is suffering from supersonic greed.
“When he is talking about Calabar-Itu road, he is talking of the spur to Ididep, because he is from Ididep. He cried when Akpabio took the Federal Polytechnics to Ukana, where did he want to site it, Ididep. He is suffering from the mirror syndrome; when he is looking at the mirror he thinks he is seeing Governnor Emmanuel but he is seeing himself”.
