EndSARS Protests: Individuals, Groups Condemns and commends AIT, Channels, Arise TVs for bold Coverage
The N9million fine imposed on Arise News Channel, Channels Television and Africa Independent Television (AIT) by the National Broadcasting Corporation recently for coverage of the ENDSARS protest has continued to attract condemnations as well as commendations of the affected broadcasting stations.
The NBC has since its announcement of the N3million fine on each of the three television stations come under attack as the likes of the West Africa Media Lawyers Association (WAMELA), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaibe, amongst others, have criticised the commission for trying to suppress the constitutional rights of the media stations by such illegal sanction.
A group of Nigerian Youths has commended as well the three broadcasting stations for their bold reportage on the recent EndSARS protests and regrets the unfortunate Shooting and murder of unarmed Nigerian Youths by who they described as “unscrupulous trigger- happy military officers.’’ They say despite the stations outstanding performances, the government-controlled National Broadcasting Corporation still chose to fine them.
They admonished the concerned tv stations to remain resolute to deliver to their global viewers the exact situation regardless of the consequences since this is the only way to sustain Nigeria’s democracy.
