Environment commissioner charges Calabar residents on clean, green environment ahead Carnival Calabar 2023
While Cross River awaits the official flag-off of the biggest street party in Africa, Calabar Carnival 2023 on Thursday November 30, 2023 as well as the commissioning of the Christmas Village in Calabar Municipal Council headquarters by Governor Bassey Otu, the state Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi has urged residents of Calabar to partner with the state government in keeping the environment clean and green to boost success of the annual carnival in December 2023.
He made the plea while supervising, along with security personnel, the routine monthly sanitation exercise held Saturday November 25, 2023 to apprehend and prosecute offenders who may want to default keeping their surroundings clean.
Osogi pointed out when fielding questions from newsmen at Ika-Ika Qua (Marian) market axis of the metropolis, a carnival route, that proper waste disposal, not throwing refuse into the gutters, helps to control erosion and flood issues.
He said his ministry is tackling behavioural change of residents towards proper environmental ethos to slow surge of refuse heaps already spotted in pocket of locations in Calabar metropolis.
