Family mourns demise of matriarch interred Friday, March 28

The family of late Madam Anthonia Demian Edet, Aged 78 years mourns her passing in a tribute at her funeral and thanksgiving mass held in her honour on Friday March 28th 2025 led by St. Hilary’s Catholic Church, Akon-Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

Her only child and daughter, Mrs. Uduak Ini Asanga, Chief Mourner described her late mother as an epitome of love, strength, firm, caring, energetic, beautiful, good hearted, exemplary, hardworking, ever cheerful and astute business woman whose vacuum is would be hard to fill.

In his homily at the occasion, the priest in-charge of St. Hilary’s Parish Akon Itam, Rev. Fr. Joseph Anthony Edet said the passing of late madam Anthonia Demian Edet, aka “Mma Ikwo” is a colossal lose to the church, family and community referencing Mathew 11:25-30 but averred that God in his infinite mercy has given the deceased eternal rest and urged those mourning her demise of the hope of meeting her again at resurrection of the saints for those who die in Christ.

Her remains were interred at the family compound in Akon-Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State after the funeral service attended by dignitaries from Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Lagos States among whom was Mr/Mrs, Okokon Asanga, Publisher of the LENS Newspapers (tabloid/online).

Condolence messages were received from her Son-in-law, Mr. Ini Asanga, Vice Chairman of Restaurants and Barr Operators of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter; Biodi Biodiversity Preservation Centre; Very Rev. Fr. Christopher. I. Okon, the priest in-charge of St. Peter’s Parish, Ediba, Calabar; The Redeemed Christian Church of God; Jesus Sanctuary; PICP, Pastor Chris Nyong; PICZ, Pst. Mfon Roland; the Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria, (CWON); World Apostolate of Fatima, St. Peter’s Parish Ediba, Calabar; Multimidas Nig. Ltd; Planhealthcare Diagnostic & Laboratories; Tatafish; Akon-Itam and Ibiono Ibom Communities.

Late Madam Anthonia Demian Edet is survived by Mrs. Uduak Ini Asang, daughter, Mr. Ini Asanga (son-in-law) and many grandchildren among whom are Idara-Obong, Emem-Obong, Etimbuk and Emediong.
