Final funeral arrangement for late Joe Wayas announced as stakeholders commend Otu, others
Prominent Cross River indigenes have expressed gratitude to Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his unwavering effort in the successful repatriation to Nigeria of the corps of Dr. Joseph Wayas, Nigeria’s former Senate President and an illustrious son of Cross River State after nearly three years since his passing and actualising a befitting burial for him.
Obol Suliaman Offiong, a business mogul and Mr. Mathias Amgbah, former Deputy Governorship Candidate of NRM in the 2023 elections gave the commendation in Calabar on Thursday, October 31st, 2024 after a World Press Conference at NUJ Press Centre to announce funeral arrangements for the late Senate President, Dr. Joseph Wayas.
The address was delivered by Dr. D. C. Enamhe, Secretary of the Central Planning Committee for the burial, and Convener, “WHO IS WHO” in Northern Cross River Forum. The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, Mr. Nsa Gill and CRS NUJ Chairman, Comrade Archibong Bassey among others, were in attendance.
Dr. Enamhe seized the moment to also commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Senate President, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu and Chief Sylvanus Anyangwu, Bassang Nation of Obanliku local government area for their commitment to honour late Dr. Wayas by arranging transportation of his corps from Abuja to Calabar and to the final destination Bassang, Obanliku. This he said speaks volume about their respect for the legacy of the deceased and recognition of his dedication to the service of his fatherland in and outside government.
He disclosed that an interdenominational service of songs would be held at U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar on November 29th 2024 before final burial in Bassang, Obanliku council area on November 30th 2024.
