Fire destroy Ishibori market, Ogoja in Cross River State

Ogoja local government central market Ishibori, was gutted by fire on Tuesday January 7 2025 and goods and properties worth millions of Naira was destroyed.

The inferno occurred less than two days after the Ogoja Division of the state high court went up in flames.

Eyewitness report revealed that the fire started around 8:45pm and as at press time the Cross River State Fire Service was unavailable to contain the inferno.

Our source revealed to newsmen that the Cross River State Fire Service Office in Ogoja is in a deplorable condition with no functional service vehicles. According to him, the offices are in a very bad condition without roofs leaving the officers to quarter under trees.

This explains in part why the fire service is unable to perform their functions whenever there is an outbreak in Ogoja.

Recall that on Sunday, January 5, 2024, a fire outbreak also ravaged the Cross River High Court building in Ogoja, causing severe damage to the court’s infrastructure.

This is the second major outbreak to occur in Ogoja metropolis in just the first week of the new year 2025.

As at press time, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
