Fmr. CMD Unical Prof. Agan to be buried Friday

The remains of Professor Thomas Udagbor Agan, the former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar, shall be committed to mother earth on Friday December 15, 2023 after obsequies at Okpeche Afrike, Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The two termed Chief Medical Director (CMD) bagged a Bachelor in Medical Sciences (B.Sc) Human Anatomy and afterward a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS) in 1990 from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state. He was a fellow of various professional bodies like the West African College of Surgeons – (FWACs), the Liberian College of Surgeons and Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).

In a press release issued on Thursday December 14, 2023 by Mr. Ignatius Amah Agan on behalf of the family said the late two term chairman of the committee of CMD/MD’s of Tertiary Health Institutions in Nigeria and fellow of the Medical & Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria would be accorded a valedictory senate session at UCTH and valedictory service to be held in his honour at the University of Calabar before the body leaves Calabar for internment at his country home in Okpeche-Afrike, Bekwarra Local Government Area, Cross River State.

Prof. Agan had over fifty publications in local and international journals to his credit with special interest in maternal medicine, reproductive and safe motherhood as well as being a visible scholar in Google.

In addition, he received Apostolic blessing from the Pope on his 25th wedding Anniversary to his spouse, Mrs. Evelyn Etonke Agan by St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monrovia, Liberia in 2022 and another Apostolic Blessing from the Holy father, Pope Francis on June 24, 2023. Others are Archdiocesan Silver Jubilee Award by His Grace Most Rev. Joseph Ekuwem, Catholic Archbishop of Calabar and Award of Honour by St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Catholic Diocese of Ogoja in January 2023.

The medical icon who passed on October 20, 2023 after a brief illness would be missed by his colleagues and medical students for his professional input in obstetrics and gynecology.
