Fmr. Cross River governor Donald Duke endorses Onor, describes Back-to-South initiative as sham
There has been a litany of endorsements by prominent personalities in Cross River State on who should occupy the Diamond hill office of the chief executive in the March 18, 2023 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
Former Governor Donald Duke has openly thrown his weight behind the PDP Governorship candidate, Senator (Prof.) Sandy Onor and urged Cross Riverians to vote out eight years of APC misrule. This scenario is overboard for supporters of the back to south political agitation premised on rotation arrangement in the state.
And doubling down he said that at times like this, “we don’t pander to sentiments except we produce the best among us because the Back-To-South slogan is simply just back to the status quo and to the Ayade syndrome with one transitioning from having a co-governor to the actual governor”.
In a broadcast via Cross River Watch podcast, made public on Tuesday March 15, 2023, Mr. Duke called on Cross Riverians to come out en-mass on Saturday March 18, 2023 to redeem the state and right the wrongs of several years of the past. He said the task of reconstruction, repair and restoration of the state is herculean as such is not for the novice, the faint hearted or the untested but requires one to understand the State, its challenges and vast opportunities saying it is not time for jesters or surrogates since this election will determine the fate of the state in many years to come. This according to him is possible when APC is voted out of power.
Duke contended that a vote for APC is a vote for another four to eight years of the same horror and bogus projects and another comical administration and a filthy environment. He asked Cross Riverians who believe in him to stand-by him for good of all by voting for Senator(Prof.) Sandy Onor who has a requisite exposure at all levels of government.
Also lending support, a PDP chieftain and Southern Senatorial District candidate in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, Ntufam Ekpo Okon supported the move and urged his teaming supporters to vote for Senator (Prof.) Sandy Onor as he is the candidate to beat in the March 18, elections.
