Fmr. Kano governor Shakarau calls for review of governance cost

Ibrahim Shakarau, former Governor of Kano State, has again called for the review of cost of governance and the current political structure for Nigeria to attain full fledge democratic system.

Shdkarau was speaking as a guest speaker at the 12th Annual Symposium of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Zone -B held in Osogbo the Osun State Capital.

In his lecture entitled, ‘Navigating Nigeria’s democracy through constructive review’, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau identified lack of true federalism and inconsistency in government’s policies as major problems impeding the country’s progress.

He advocated for a unicameral legislature to reduce the cost of governance and appealed to government to improve on the country’s electoral process.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke said a conversation like this should be held periodically in other to hold political office holders accountable.

The symposium which congregated participants from 17 states in the southern part of Nigeria has as its theme ‘Reshaping the past for the future’.
