Fmr. NA aspirant denies sponsoring communal crisis in Cross River

The former House of Representatives aspirant for Ikom/Boki federal constituency, Pius Abang, has dismissed insinuations that he is sponsoring communal clashes in Boki local government area in Cross River State which unleash violent attacks on residents of Boje, Isobendeghe.

Abang refuted the allegation in during a telephone conversation with our Correspondent recently.

Abang, who had previously aspired for the House of Representatives seat under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before decamping to the All Progressives Congress (APC), averred that it would be illogical for him to sponsor a crisis in Isobendeghe community where he has significant farming interest.

He said that he has several hectares of cocoa plants in Isobendeghe arguing that he would not jeopardize his investments by fueling violence in the area.

Abang explained that he has been unable to access his farms since May 15, 2025, which incidentally coincided with his birth day, when four men purportedly from a neighboring community of Boje, stormed his cocoa plantation and threatened his life.

He said that farming is his primary source of livelihood stressing that he would not risk losing his investments again, after losing his timber business that crumbled due to unfavorable government policies.

Abang attributed the accusations to political opponents who may be seeking to discredit him ahead of the 2027 elections.

He claimed that they have hired individuals to spread false information on social media platforms to damage his reputation

“As a law-abiding citizen, I have reached out to the Commissioner of Police, requesting his intervention in the matter.

The former aspirant denied any involvement with one Jerry whom the Calabar based blogger wrote in an article to be his personal assistant.

“Jerry isn’t appointed as my Personal Assistant because I’m not holding any appointments nor jerry’s name in my payroll”. Abang stated.

“Those who seek justice can’t go around slandering my name, they should seek redress through a legitimate mean by going to court rather than resorting to threads to my life”, he advised.
