Former Senate President Joseph Wayas corpse arrives Calabar, burial Saturday
The remains of Dr. Joseph Wayas, a one time President of the Nigerian Senate has arrived Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
His corpse arrived aboard a Mitsubishi CRJ 200 Jet registered 5N-XEL to XE at about 18:10 Hours at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport shortly after the arrival of President of the 10th Senate, Godswill Akpabio and his entourage aboard a Nigerian Air Force Dassault Falcon 7X with registration number 5N-FGV.
Cross River Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, National Assembly members and several others were on ground to receive the remains of the former lawmaker.
Dr. Wayas who served as President of the Senate from October 1, 1979 to December 31, 1983 passed away on November 30, 2021 in London, the United Kingdom.
His burial was delayed for several reasons with his corpse returning to Nigeria 33 months after his passing in a London healthcare courtesy of the intervention by a pressure group, Who is Who in Northern Cross River, which raised funds for his burial.
He is to be committed to earth after lying instate at U. J. Esuene Stadium Thursday November 28th 2024 on Saturday 30th November, 2024 in his native land Sankwala in Obanliku Local Government Area of Northern Cross River State exactly three years since his passing.
