FRSC Scores Akwa Ibom high on good road networks
Akwa Ibom State Government has acknowledged commendations for delivering high-quality road infrastructure in the State.
The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr Moses Ekpo has noted that the Udom Emmanuel administration has a deliberate policy thrust of developing the three economic gateways of air, land, and sea.
He said this while reacting to commendations from the Federal Road Safety Corps, a strategic stakeholder in the nation’s road transport sub-sector in Uyo as contained in a press statement signed by the press secretary, Mr Ekikere Umoh and made available to journalists.
The deputy governor who was receiving participants of the Junior Course1 of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Command and Staff College, Enugu, who paid him a courtesy call added that the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel has spent 7 years intentionally improving the living standard of Akwa Ibom people across the board.
“If we have good roads, it is because we place a premium on communication as it will aid us in transporting our farm and commercial products Fromm one point to the other”.
He further added that the government was committed to opening Akwa Ibom to the outside world through a good roads network, Ibom air as well as the Ibom deep seaport which he said will facilitate business activities in the state.
Mr Ekpo stressed that the Akwa Ibom government wants the best for its people and is therefore willing to partner with the FRSC to ensure that the roads are standardised, even as he requested collaboration to fastrack areas that need intervention.
He maintained that the existence of good roads with appropriate signages and regulators will help to curtail carnages on the roads, adding that the government was willing to partner with the agency to ensure sanity on the roads.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Commandant of the Staff College, Enugu, Asst. Corp. Marshall Chidiebere Benjamin Ukwota commended the Akwa Ibom state government for its continuous effort in providing a good road network which he described as an integral part of the Nigerian road safety strategy that entails the role of the state in providing road infrastructure.
He disclosed that the students were on a visit to the state for a study tour to interact with practitioners, and critical stakeholders as well as gain practical experience outside the classroom.
He noted that the theme of the study was “Cascading the Nigerian road safety strategy to the sub-national levels”.
He used the occasion to say that the FRSC was ready to collaborate with the state government in ensuring that the state’s road network was furnished with appropriate road signage to bring them to a global standard.
