German long-range precision weapons arrive in Ukraine as Ukrainian forces record success in Russian-held Snake Island in Black Sea
Ukraine says it “finally” deployed an advanced German artillery system, in the latest delivery of the long-range, precision weapons that it has been calling for.
Ukrainian forces leveraging on the advanced weaponry say they have caused significant losses to Russian positions on Snake Island in the Black Sea.
The island off the coast of the southern Ukrainian region of Odesa was seized by Russian forces in February as a key stronghold in their offensive.
The Ukrainian military said on social media on Tuesday that it had launched attacks using various forces on the island.
US satellite operator Maxar Technologies on Wednesday publicized satellite images of Snake Island taken on Friday last week and Tuesday this week.
The pictures were taken on Tuesday show what look like charred parts of the ground in the island’s northern, middle and southern areas.
These charred parts were not visible on Friday’s images, indicating that Ukrainian forces probably launched the attacks between Friday and Tuesday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to strengthen the army and deploy newly tested Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles for duty by the end of the year.
