Governor Ayade advocates teaching of morality as special subject in Schools
Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has called for the introduction of Morality Staudies as a subject in the basic education curriculum in Nigeria.
According to him, this will guarantee quality and meangful development of citizens.
He said this on Monday in Calabar during the flag- off of the 2019 School Based Management Committee — School Improvement Programme (SBMC- SIP) by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The governor said that there was need to teach morality and integrity at the basic school level.
“The children need to learn morality and integrity at the basic education level to guarantee a better future for Nigerians, ” he said.
Speaking, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi said the event marked the commencement of “yet another cycle of deliberate Community engagement geared towards establishing a result-oriented mechanism for quality basic education delivery in Nigeria.”
He added that all the Southern States have a total of 527 projects under the SBMC- SIP in the 2019 funding arrangement.
According to him, 31 of these projects are in the Special Case Category; 170 Macro projects and 340 projects in micro category.
“Cross River State will receive various amounts in funding support for 31 projects under this 2019 arrangement, ” he said.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders including State and Local Governments, traditional and religious leaders and International Development Partners to rally round in safe guiding the basic education system.
