Governor Otu reopens Marina Resort, lifts ban on scrap metals activities in Cross River
Cross River Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu has ordered the reopening of the Marina Resort which was shut down over a cruise boat mishap on June 24, 2023 involving 14 medical students with three reported dead and 11 rescued.
In another development, he also lifted the ban on scrap metal activities which was due to the vandalisation of infrastructures.
This was contained in a press release signed by Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chief Press Secretary to the governor dated 6th September 2023 referenced GO/PRESS/012/VOL.II/242.
It read in part “Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has ordered the reopening of the Marina Resort, which was shut down over a speed boat incident.
“The governor directed that the order for the reopening is with immediate effect. In another development, the governor has lifted the ban on the activities of scrap operators.
“Governor Otu, however, directed that companies willing to carry out scrap metal activities must be guided fully by the laid down rules which include registration with the Scrap Metal Regulatory Agency of the State, obtaining a valid operational license from the agency, obtaining a valid form of identification from the Agency and seek and obtain an approved location for their operations.”
