Governor Otu’s skills acquisition training for Cross River youths commended

The cleric and lead minister of Living – Sacrifice Evangelical Mission, Calabar – Pastor Joseph Owan Ogon has commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for the laudable initiative of equipping vulnerable youths in the state with life enhancing skills in welding and fabrication, among others, to make them employable in trades and industries as well as a path to curbing youth restiveness.

Ogon while fielding questions from newsmen at the venue of the youth empowerment project in Park I, State Housing Estate, Calabar where he engaged them in football training, described Otu’s feat as awesome and implored youth in the society to resist the temptation of engaging in anti-social vices but should instead embrace positive activities of the state government to better their future.

Himself a scion of the late elder Statesman and former notable figure in South Eastern Nigeria in the first republic, Chief (Elder) Michael Etta Ogon, has many youths in his payroll at synergy mining company and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) pilot project in league with the Cross River State sports Commission and Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC).

The skills acquisition program anchored by Engr. Benard Jessey, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Benco Welding Fabrication work is scheduled to train 100 youths in Cross River South Senatorial District of Biase, Akamkpa, Odukpani, Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Akpabuyo and Bakassi Local Government Areas even as the documentation of trainees by the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Out on Local Content is in the pipeline.
