Governor Wike berated for creating political tension in Cross River State
The decision by the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to pull- out from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign team with his allies over the perceived imbalance in the party structure has come under criticism by a prominent Efik son and social commentator, Prince Felix Nkannor.
Prince Felix Nkannor in a chat with LENS Reporter in Calabar on Monday, September 26 wondered why Wike chose to sponsor Senator (Prof.) Sandy Onor, the Governorship candidate of PDP in 2023 general elections a native of Etung council area in Central Senatorial District of Cross River State against the Back-To-South agenda, a zoning arrangement in the state that favours a shift of governorship slot to South in 2023.
He opined that rather than support an Efik son, Senator Gershom Bassey to emerge as a candidate of the party in the primaries which would have enhanced harmony, he decided instead to throw his weight behind Senator Sandy Onor thereby hitting the polity and creating problems in the State.
He said that since Wike could not honour the political arrangement in Cross River State by going against the wish of the people, he has no moral right to fight for justice in the manner the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 elections have opted not to support the removal of Senator (Dr) Iyorchia Ayu, the embattled PDP National chairman which he said hails from the Northern part of the country with Atiku.
Nkannor posits that rather than crying more than the bereaved from the political equation in the party structure leading to the 2023 general elections, Wike should avoid laying land mines which could lead to his committing political suicide in the event of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar winning the presidential elections.
