Governor Wike dares Ayu, accuses him of betrayal, corrupt

Governor Nyesom Wike has dared the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorcha Ayu to make good his threat to stop any candidate of the party from contesting the 2023 general election.

This is the latest twist in the PDP crisis over pressure from the Rivers State Governor and some of his supporters on Iyorcha Ayu to step down from his position.

In spite of efforts by different stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party to settle their differences, the war of words between the two camps rages on.

Recall that the National Chairman Iyorcha Ayu while addressing some of his kinsmen said he had no intention to resign, instead he claimed that he was in a position to stop the Senatorial ambition of the Governor of Benue State and others who are opposed to him, but chose not to do so in the interest of the party.

Governor Wike accused the embattled PDP national chairman of betraying those who were instrumental in securing him the position of PDP national chairman.

The Governor also cleared the air once again that the demand is not for Iyorcha Ayu to be sacked but rather it was for him to voluntarily resign in compliance with the PDP constitution on the zoning of political and elective offices.

The rivalry between the two stems from Ayu’s refusal to step down as party chairman despite the election of Atiku Abubakar as a presidential candidate.

In the spirit of justice and equity, Atiku and Ayu are from the North, while Wike has frequently insisted on the Chairmanship being assigned to the South.
