Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers kill final year student of Akwa Poly

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers, have allegedly killed a final year Higher National Diploma (HND) student, Computer Science of Àkwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua who was waiting to be mobilized for National Youth Service Scheme.

It was gathered that the victim simply identified as Prince was shot in front of his girlfriend in his room by 1 am on Wednesday along Abuja Street in Ikot Osurua community.

An eyewitness account who pleaded anonymity said the gunmen invaded the compound, moved straight to the room of the victim and shot him in the abdomen leaving him in the pool of his blood.

The girlfriend was reported to have raised alarm before neighbours came out and rushed the victim to hospital.

An eye witness said that, “The gunmen didn’t steal anything from the house. They did not even rob anybody in the compound. They just shot him and escaped.

” I met the victim yesterday at about 4 pm with his girlfriend. Both of them wore Facemask. Jovially, I asked them why they were dressing in that manner. We all laughed.

” The victims was very popular in the neighborhood and a strong member of choral group in his church. We are shocked the way he died. ”

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa DSP Timfon John said there was robbery and cult operations in the area where the victim’s compound was robbed while the students was shot dead.

” Information at our disposal is that there was robbery and cult operations in the area.

” They invaded and robbed where they shot somebody who was later identified as a student. But investigation is ongoing”. She spoke.
