House to resume plenary at a make shift chamber from Tuesday

Nigeria’s National Assembly is to resume plenary on Tuesday in a make-shift space.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila made this known while inspecting ongoing rehabilitation work in the chamber of the House of Representatives and other projects in the National Assembly.

After many years of delay, the Federal Capital Development Agency kicked off the rehabilitation of the National Assembly complex housing the two chambers in late July.

The chamber is expected to be transformed into a world-class structure using state-of-the-art technology.

Seven weeks on, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila is here to assess what has been done so far.

From what has now become the old chamber to the temporary chamber, the Speaker asks questions where necessary as he puts some of the facilities to test

He gives his assessment after the inspection exercise

He also assures that plenary activities will take off at the temporary chamber when the National Assembly resumes next Tuesday

The Speaker is confident that the 2023 budget will be presented in early October

Femi Gbajabiamila was also at the permanent site of the National Assembly Service Commission, where the contractor and the Monitoring team express confidence their work will speak for them.

The new chamber is scheduled to be completed by August 2023.

What this means is that the 10th National Assembly is most likely to elect its presiding officers at the make-shift chamber in June before going on break.
