Idoro Odube advocates peaceful electioneering campaigns, debunks remour Community isn’t open for campaigns
IDORO Community youths in Ibiono Ibom local government council in Akwa Ibom state have appealed to all in the area to remain peaceful, and orderly before, during, and after the forthcoming general elections in 2023.
They gave this admonition, during the community meeting held at PCN school in Idoro at the weekend.
At the meeting which was attended by all youths from the villages that make up the community, they unanimously prayed for and passed a vote of confidence on the Vice Chairman of Ibiono Ibom LGA, Comrade Nsikanabasi Ukobot, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the community with commendable strides in delivering on assigned duties.
Addressing the gathering, the convener of the meeting Comrade Imo Ime Imaha, informed them that the meeting isn’t for political campaigns or organized and sponsored by any political party. He said it is rather to re-orientate the youths on the need for peaceful politicking and orderliness in the land during and after the 2023 general elections.
“This is the only community we can proudly call ours, politics shall come and go, but Idoro as a community shall remain. Therefore let us together, chat a new course for the community’s politicking. It’s high time Idoro Community takes back its glory, but this shall be achieved only when you and I harmonize our interests. We are here again today to re-orientate ourselves on the need to play politics with no rancour.”
It is worthy to note that political leaders from different political platforms attended the meeting and appreciated the convener describing the meeting as apt and adding that their thoughts and interests have always been for the growth and development of the community and that this one won’t be an exception. They charged their members to shun bitterness, hatred, and other vices before, during, and after the 2023 elections.
In his remarks, Rev. Aniefiok Tom, who represented the religious community harped on the need to have a frequent gathering of such magnitude, adding that, meetings of such will create among the people, a stronger bond, unity and hope for the land. He further requested that youths of Idoro should at all times go for peaceful coexistence even with diverse political views, frowning at politics of hatred. The man of God ended with prayers for the land of Idoro, it leaders and ambassadors.
The President Idoro Youths Forum, Insp. Sunday Ekanem who was represented by Comrade Utibe-a aside Sunday in his word asked the youth to be of peaceful conduct during and after the election. He charged them to ignore violence and rather should develop an acceptable strategy to convince the electorates to support their candidates
Mr. Etteobong Nse Edet, the immediate past PDP Chairman who doubles as Idoro Youth Vice President encouraged the youths and all parties to canvas for a vote in a peaceful manner and in a way that will bring unity to the community. He frowned at negative energies brought forth by some political leaders aimed at destroying one another, advising the youths not to play politics of bitterness.
The Vice Chairman of Ibiono Ibom LGA, Comrade Nsikanabasi Ukobot through his Media Aide, Comr. Ukpeme Effeh, reminded the youths and every Idoro indigene of their shared brotherhood, adding that the togetherness amongst them, the peace the land has been enjoying and the development of the community shouldn’t be traded for selfish political interests rather the interests of the community should be a prioritized agenda in their different political camps. He reminded his people that, democracy only gives everyone the right to support and vote for a candidate of one’s choice and not the right to fight each other.
The indigenes of Idoro who came out in droves, in their separate responses expressed their appreciation to the organizers and the leadership of different political parties in Idoro community for their wisdom to pursue the unity of the community first before their political interests.
They cried out to the state government, as part of his completion agenda to award a contract for the construction of the Afua-Idoro-Ikot Ekwere road which worsens by the day, adding that the northern zone, which is the food basket of Ibiono Ibom LGA and Akwa Ibom State at large should be accessible for business.
However, the forum debunked the remours that Idoro Community isn’t opened for campaigns, putting to the general public that the community is open for every candidate/political party to carry out their campaigns but advised that in doing this, enmity shouldn’t be created among the leaders, youths and every indigene of the Idoro Odube.
The meeting had in attendance representatives from ICODA, IYPA, IYF, IYV, PDP, YPP, APC, and NNPP amongst others.
