IGP orders removal of impounded vehicles from stations
Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba has ordered the immediate evacuation of impounded and unregistered exhibit vehicles from police stations across the nation.
Babar frowned at the practice of keeping vehicles recovered from crime scenes or whose ownership is in the dispute or in doubt in police premises and often with stringent requirements or difficult processes for their rightful owners to reclaim them.
A statement by the acting force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi described such acts as abuse of administrative and judicial processes and called on concerned members of the public to approach various Police formations for the recovery and claims of their vehicles.
The IGP also ordered heads of police stations and formations to embark on due process to carry out the needful evaluation and releases of such vehicles in these categories, on a bond to their owners.
