Ikot Uduak residents appeal to national assembly member to provide solar powered street light
Residents of Ikot Uduak in Calabar municipal council area of Cross River State has appealed to the member representing Calabar/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba to facilitate planting of solar street lights in the community ravaged by erosion.
Fielding questions from newsmen on Thursday March 21, 2024 in Calabar, a landlord Engr. Edet Udoh who spoke on behalf of other residents lamented the frequent molestation on daily bases by hoodlums who harass people under the cover of the dark and enabled by the bad road along the Assemblies of God axis off MCC road. The residents begged the honourable member to use his good office to attract governments attention towards illuminating the community with street lights. This they say would alleviate their suffering which has already forced some residents to relocate from the area as the remedial work to correct the gully erosion project was abandoned half-way by the contractor.
A letter signed by Engr. Udoh to Rt. Hon. Akiba and sighted by newsmen asked the federal lawmaker to intervene and address their request as the situation of the community is dire.
Recall that Rt. Hon. Eta Mbora, member representing Calabar/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the green chamber of the national assembly had facilitated the installation of solar street lights in Calabar metropolis and a solar powered water borehole at the NUJ secretariat in State Housing Estate Calabar, thus placing a burden on Akiba to replicate such gesture as his constituency project for Ikot Uduak community.
