INEC declares APC candidate winner of Ogoja/Yala federal constituency by-election

Mr. Jude Ngaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency of Cross River State held on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

Dr. John Edor, the INEC returning officer for the election while declaring the results said, the APC candidate scored 22,778 to defeat his closest rival, Mr Mike Usibe of the PDP who scored 20,590 votes.

In his reaction, the State Chairman of APC, Mr. Alphonsus Eba commended INEC for a good job, adding that the use of BVAS has facilitated free and fair elections.

Eba also commended the President, Muhammad Buhari for signing the Electoral Act.

“This will surely strengthen the electoral process, ” he said.

In his own reaction, the PDP Chairman, Mr Venatius Ikem said they were still studying the situation and will respond at the appropriate time.

“We are still looking at the results and at the appropriate time, we will respond,” he said.

He said there were discrepancies noticed during the election in many polling units, adding that, the party would respond in due course.

The by-election was necessitated by the vacancy created by the elevation of the former member representing the Constituency, Hon. Jarigbe Agom had moved to the Senate to represent the Northern Senatorial District of the state.
