INEC declares APC Okpebholo winner, defeats Ighodalo, Akpata in Edo governorship election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, as the winner of the governorship election in Edo State.
According to INEC’s Returning officer, Prof. Farouq Adamu Kuta who announced the results in Benin City, the Edo state capital, on Sunday said the APC candidate scored a total of 291,667 as against 247, 655 votes won by the PDP candidate to emerge winner.
The governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo is a serving Senator representing Edo Central at the National Assembly.
A breakdown of results from 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Sunday evening shows Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes, followed closely by Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 247,655 votes.
Olumide Akpata, representing the Labour Party (LP), finished third, receiving a total of 22,763 votes.
Faruk Adamu, State returning officer for the Edo 2024 governorship election disclosed at the collation centre in Benin City that APC won in 11 local governments while PDP triumphed in seven.
