Over eight million young Nigerians completed the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration, INEC announced this yesterday.
The youth demography has been touted as a major deciding factor in the upcoming elections and INEC’s figures seem to back the theory.
According to INEC, there were 10,487,972 fresh registrants, while 12,298,944 persons completed their registrations. And of these, 8,784,677 were composed of young people.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, despite pleas from Nigerians and relevant stakeholders urging the commission to extend the deadline.
Earlier, the commission had declared that the exercises would officially end on July the 31st, 2022.
Prior to this notice, INEC extended the June 30th deadline but did not stipulate when the exercise would officially end.
