INEC to create more polling units in Cross River

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Cross River, Dr Emmanuel Hart has said the commission was ready to increase the number of poling units in the State.

He said this on Wednesday in Calabar at a workshop on implementation of voter access to polling units organised for Electoral Officers (EOs), Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs), and Registration/Enumeration Area demarcation Officers.

He said the commission was committed to ensuring credible and transparent election in the state, and the country hence the need for expansion of polling units.

“This will bring to an end the challenges of overcrowding, social distancing, long queues violence, limited amount of space for INEC officials at polling units and long-distance trek by voters, ” he said.

Hart said the training was meant to equip the staff on strategies to implement voter access to polling units.

According to him, the expansion of polling units would enhance more voter participation “thereby reducing voter apathy”.

He expressed gratitude to the commission and other stakeholders for supporting the expansion programme designed to encourage more voter participation in the electoral process.
