Inter-party advisory group advocates peace in Cross River Bye-Elections

A press release signed by the Cross River State Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr. Ogar Osim was handed to LENS Newspapers on Friday.

The public announcement bothers on the bye-elections on Saturday in Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency and Akpabuyo State Constituency in Cross River State.

The release read: “The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State Chapter commend leaders and members of respective political parties for ensuring peaceful campaign ahead of the Bye Elections in Akpabuyo State Constituency and Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency. It is worthy of note that campaigns by political parties are completely devoid of violence and civil unrest.

“Also, we express our gratitude and profound commendation to the leadership of the Cross River State Independent National Commission, INEC for the relentless commitment and innovations to fulfill its statutory obligations to the State through the application of advanced technology in the conduct of elections.

“We are not, however, unmindful of incidents of hitches that may occur during the exercise. It is hoped that the state INEC will be proactive to address such occurrences to enable voters to exercise their franchise conveniently.

“The various stakeholder’s meetings and sensitizations as well as measures already put in place by respective security operatives in the State in ensuring orderliness and peace throughout the election process is highly applauded. IPAC looks forward to the practicality of these measures during the main exercise when the need arises.

“IPAC also seizes this chance to call on the voters especially our gallant Youths, to reject any role of violence, lawlessness, insanity, and destruction of lives and properties. We have been made to understand that the election is technology-based. Therefore, the decision on who becomes the winner or loser is with the voters only.

“One need not be told that in every election, there will certainly be winners and losers, as such candidates and electorates must approach the poll in the spirit of sportsmanship for power belongs to God.

“The media is critical to democracy, and a democratic election is impossible without media. IPAC therefore, calls on the media to play her indispensable role by maintaining a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and impartiality in their coverage.

“IPAC is determined and fully prepared not to leave any stone unturned for transparent successes to be achieved, throughout the exercise.
