Interim Government: Name, arrest those behind plan, I.P.A.C., A.P.C., P.D.P. tell D.S.S; Agbakoba says move unconstitutional, must be rejected
A former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba, says there is no provision for an interim government in the country’s constitution. He added that the gravest possible consequences must be applied to those allegedly behind the plot.
The Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday said it had confirmed a plot by some “misguided” political actors to set aside the constitution and install an interim government in the country thereby stoping Bola Ahmed Tinubu from being inaugurated as president. It added that the plot includes embarking on violent protests nationwide to engineer the declaration of a state of emergency as well as securing frivolous court injunctions to stall the inauguration.
Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, Agbakoba said the secret plans must be rejected by all Nigerians. He urged parties aggrieved by the presidential election to approach the courts for possible redress.
In addition, the Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yabagi Sani, has asked the Department of State Service (DSS) to name and apprehend those it said are behind plans to install an interim government in the country.
However, Sani said it is not enough for the DSS to announce a plot for interim government, charging them to go further and name the plotters as well as take action against them.
Meanwhile, the presidential campaign councils of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have challenged the Department of State Services to get tough with plotters of the interim national government.
But the Chief Spokesman for the Labour Party PCC, Yunusa Tanko, said Nigerians would not be intimidated by the threat of the DSS.
