Iran agrees to limit highly enriched uranium stock if euro nations drops resolution

The International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA has reportedly said Iran is offering to cap its stock of highly enriched uranium, on condition that Western powers drop their push for a resolution against the country.

Reuters news agency said the nuclear watchdog told member countries on Tuesday that Iran had offered to cease expanding its stock of uranium, enriched to up to 60 percent purity, beyond its current stock of about 185 kilograms.

IAEA said Iran is calling for Britain, France and Germany to abandon a draft resolution they plan to submit at a quarterly meeting of the IAEA’s Board of Governors starting on Wednesday.

The draft resolution condemns Iran for its poor cooperation with the IAEA and calls for the agency to issue a comprehensive report on Iran’s nuclear activities. It addresses issues including traces of unexplained uranium at undeclared sites.

International concern has been mounting over Iran’s nuclear program. Tehran has been ramping up uranium production since US President-elect Donald Trump, during his first term, unilaterally pulled the US from a 2015 nuclear deal that Iran signed with world powers.
