A House of Representatives aspirant for Itu\Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency seat under PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Edet Ikotidem, has said the absence of a functional constituency office has denied constituents of vital information that would have better their lives.

He lamented that the practice of empowering constituents with keke, motorbike and others have become the rule rather than the precept.

This according to the aspirant has not helped the people in any way and should be discouraged.

Speaking at a media chat with some journalists at the weekend, the aspirant said his aspiration would ensure the establishment of functional constituency office for effective liaison with the people.

“I will ensure the establishment of a functional liaison office where my constituents will access vital information that would help their lots” he said.

He listed some vital federal government facilities like students’ scholarships, grants, agricultural loan scheme, empowerment programmes and other dividends of democracy, which he noted, the Itu\Ibiono Ibom people had long been denied due to lack of access to information.

Ikotidem who lamented that the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency have not had effective representation for a long time, said he was in the race to redeem them from lack of effective representation.

“We have not gotten effective representation in Itu\Ibiono Ibom because we have not been able to bargain for a fair share from the federal resources and projects”, he said.

Reacting to claims in some quarters that Buhari’s fight against corrupt was sectional the aspirant said “fighting corruption remains one of the most difficult task for any government or institution to effectively accomplish, adding “President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has achieved a lot in that direction in last three years and urged the people to imbibe patience for the war to be fully won.
