Lagos Blue Rail Line to start commercial operation Sept. 4

Lagos State Government announced on Wednesday that the Blue Line Rail transport will begin full commercial operations, accepting payments on Monday, September 4, 2023.

According to the statement from some officials of the state government who were on board the train for a final test-run of the infrastructure from Marina to Mile 2, the Blue Line Rail will be relocated.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State governor is expected to board the train at the Marina station at precisely 9 a.m. on Monday, according to the Managing Director of the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo who was spoke at the Blue Rail Line Terminal in Marina on Tuesday.

She noted that beginning on Tuesday, September 5, partial passenger services would run during the peak hours of the morning from 6:30am to 10am and the afternoon round from 4pm to 9:30pm.

According to Akinajo, these activities will begin with 12 trips for two weeks before increasing to 76 shuttles every day.

The train will operate on a locomotive for the first four weeks of operation even though it is electric to give the electric system time to completely charge and align with the physical infrastructure. Additionally, it enables users to become used to the system. However, the tracks will continue to be powered, so people cannot cross them.
