Lawmaker louds Tinubu’s intervention in APC crisis in Cross River
The Deputy Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly and The All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for Calabar South/Akpabuyo/Bakassi Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey aka “Papa” has commended the Presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for reconciling warring factions in Cross River State during his campaign visit to the state.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who was in Calabar while addressing supporters called Senator John Owan-Enoh and Mrs. Mary Ekpere-Eta who took speaker of the state House of Assembly to Court seeking to nullify the last party primaries to join him on stage.
“You, Senator John Enoh, we are bound to be very angry in one way or the other. We are bound to be disappointed. As long as human beings live, we are bound to have our regrets.
“But abandoning our people and cause and determination to make progressives, that they have lived with the people’s commitment is not what you’re out for. I saw you at the airport and I begged you and I am still begging you publicly, let it end, let it end. Please, enough lawsuits.
He urged the warring factions to bury their hatchets and work for the progress and victory of the party in the 2023 general elections.
The Governor, Senator (prof.) Ben Ayade, Senator Bassey Otu and the State Party Chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Eba then joined the trio on stage with Mr. Eba kneeling down and waving his hands in the air to thank God for the reconciliation.
It would be recalled that in the Central Senatorial district slot Mrs. Ekpere Eta who lost to Rt. Hon Jones Williams Eteng on the first and a re-run of the party primaries had approached the Federal High Court to nullify the elections which Mr. Eteng won again.
Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey while fielding questions from newsmen in Calabar on Thursday, December 22, 2022, congratulated Rt. Hon Jones Eteng Williams for his victory and called on all party members on both sides of the aisle to close ranks and work for the victory of all APC candidates from top to bottom in the 2023 elections.
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu during a town hall meeting in Calabar called on the warring factions of the party in Cross River State to end their differences which were heightened after the party primaries in the state.
“We have been great friends and we have always shared one thing in common – progressive thinking and the capacity to change the dynamics of regression. No matter what degree of hanger we feel”.
Recall Owan Enoh, a governorship aspirant, had asked the court to nullify the election of Bassey Otu as the governorship candidate of the party but lost at the Federal High Court as well as the Court of Appeal. ]
