The recent release of time-table for the conduct of local government elections in Cross River State on 2nd November 2024, has opened up the space with multiple aspirants throwing in their hats. Juliet Edet Edem, a female chairmanship aspirant, has vowed to emerge as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Calabar South Local Government Area.
Juliet who through her campaign director, Price Bassey Ita Edet aka “BADDEST” has promised to continue from where the former chairperson of Calabar South Local Government Area, Late Hon. Esther Bassey left off. She died after meeting on presidential poll in the early hours of Friday 24th 2023, less than 24 hours before the presidential and National Assembly elections ended.
She promised to build on the people oriented leadership qualities of the late chairman who hyped the capacity of women in positions of authority by leveraging on the office to impact society positively.
Her spokes man, Prince Bassey Ita Edet who is the SA to Governor Bassey Otu on Tools Collection has appealed while fielding question from newsmen in Calabar on Thursday, for a level playing ground and gender equality in the build-up to the polls. This scenario he said would allow the female politician, Juliet Edet Edem from ward 12 in Calabar South 2 State Constituency to emerge as the party flag-bearer considering her antecedent as a grass-root mobilizer who has contributed to the emergence of Senator Bassey Otu at the poll in the 2023 Governorship and State Assembly elections.
