The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Akwa Ibom state branch, has appealed to the House of Representatives, to follow the Senate in passing the Maritime Academy bill on time once it reached it Chambers.
In a statement signed by it’s Chairman, Comrade Frankly Isong and made available to Journalists in Uyo yesterday, he appealed as well to President Buhari not to delay assenting to the Bill once both Houses sent it to him for his assent.
He commended the Senate for passing the bill to upgrade the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, to a University for Maritime Studies, noting that at its full implementation, a lot of benefits would accrue to the state and indeed Nigeria
“The bill was the first bill sponsored by the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, in 2019, I commend her for ensuring its passage by members of the Senate against all odds.
“Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians will benefit greatly from opportunities that will come with the new institution. The University will offer courses in specialised international shipping, waterways transportation, port operations and management as well as exploitation and exploration of oil and gas to boost the country’s economy”, the statement read.
