Maritime workers in Nigeria protest ill-treatment of shipping lines; vows to shut seaports Monday
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has said that it will commence a nationwide strike action on Monday over lingering disputes with shipping lines with regards to the welfare of their members.
MWUN President-General, Prince Adewale Adeyanju disclosed this at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday.
He said the union has been fighting with the shipping companies on the welfare of workers to no avail.
He said despite several ultimatums, the shipping companies has refused to improve workers’ welfare lamenting that workers in the shipping industry were being treated like slaves.
