N3b carrot to scale Senate: Sahara Reporters to tender apology to Lawan in 7 days
The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan and Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing a constituency in Niger state has given an online publication, Sahara Reporters 7 days ultimatum to retract and tender an apology over the alleged false publication on the reappointment of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Counsel for both parties, Ahmed Raji in the letter dated November 20, 2020, said his clients deny in its entirety the contents of the publication and the said publication is utterly false and defamatory and therefore demand an apology from Sahara Reporters on the offensive report.
The Online medium had in its report of November 18, 2020 published an article with the headline,” How INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, allegedly Paid N3b To Secure Reappointment.”
In the publication, Sahara Reporter said a group led by the Senate President collected the sum of N2b from the INEC Chairman and another N1b through another group. The payment of the money was also said to be aided by Senator Sani Musa.
Raji as well noted that apart from the retraction of the publication Sahara reporter is to enter into negotiation for damages.
