NAPTAN Cross River chapter felicitates Otu on one year in office, others
The National-Parent Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) Cross River State Chapter has felicitated the state Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu on the occasion of his first year in office on May 29, 2024.
The body made the remark after a state enlarged meeting held on May 28th 2024 at West African Peoples Institute (WAPI) in Calabar. Chief (Prof.) Boniface Odey, the State Chairman of NAPTAN who doubles as National Treasurer and Trustee commended the Governor for restoring sanity to the education system by paying the West African Examinations Council fees for students of Cross River State origin. He commended Otu for rebasing the aesthetic of the state capital with promise to continue with policies, projects and programs of past administrations like rejiging the abandoned Tinapa, Obudu Holiday Resort as well as putting machinery in-place to boost the state Air-transport by increasing the fleet of Cally-Air to five aircrafts.
He particularly His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu who he describes as the Peoples Governor for having the listening ear by approving NAPTAN proposal of having computer laboratories in Public Schools to enhance students performance in WAEC/SC computer based examinations.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and read by the Public Relations Officer Rev. Ayo. M. Egba the body harped on the need to allow HPV vaccination of girls between the ages of 9 and 14 in schools to be optional and implored the government to employ teachers and security guards in public schools by converting the existing NAPTAN auxiliary teachers and security men in the system to permanent staff to improve learning and safe-guard school properties.
In her closing remark, the host of the meeting and Principal of West African Peoples Institute, Mrs. Gertrude Egbelu commended the state NAPTAN for their complimentary role in the development of education in the state and appealed to parents to assist the teachers by contributing their quota for the success of the children in school.
