NDDC honored Prof. Eyo Nyong for outstanding contribution to regional development
Nigeria’s Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has conferred an honour on Professor Eyo Etim Nyong, a distinguished son of Cross River State, in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the development of the Niger Delta intervention regime.
The award ceremony which took place on Saturday, July 12, 2025 drew an array of dignitaries, political leaders, and stakeholders from across the South-South region. The event served as a celebration of Prof. Nyong’s achievements and also as a reflection on the critical role of intellectual leadership in regional advancement.
Prof. Nyong, a seasoned academic, an outstanding authority in Petroleum Geology, an elder statesman and a political giant has played a strategic role in shaping development policies and projects in the Niger Delta over the years. His input in the areas of environmental sustainability, infrastructure planning, and policy development has been widely acknowledged by government and non-governmental institutions.
He has been very instrumental in drawing the master plan for the intervention regime, an outstanding contribution that led to his adoption as a consultant to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Prof. Nyong’s recognition by the NDDC is seen as a significant endorsement of his decades-long commitment to regional progress, particularly in promoting inclusive policies and responsible environmental stewardship.
The honour bestowed on him further cements his legacy as one of Cross River State’s most respected intellectuals and policy influencers, as well as a key figure in the ongoing quest to transform the Niger Delta into a hub of sustainable growth and development.
