NDE Trains 360 Youths in Cross River

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says it has recruited a total of 360 unemployed youths in Cross River State for training under its Vocational Skill Development Programme.

Acting Director General (NDE) Abubaka Nuhu Fikpo disclosed this in Calabar during the flagging off of the programme at Calabar Municipal Council Government Secretariat on Tuesday.

He explained that the exercise is a national programme and that twenty youths were to be recruited from each local council totaling 360 from the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.

NDE National Directorate of Employment (NDE) further said that the exercise was designed to reduce the rising rate of youths’ unemployment in the country.

According to the NDE Acting Director General, the informal sector contributes significantly by stimulating the economy, promoting flexible labour markets and stimulating productive activities among others.

He added, “this year training 20 unemployed youths are being recruited per Local Government of Cross River State to be trained in skills that are in their locality”.

“The skill acquisition includes fashion design, hair dressing, catering, fabricating, among others”.

“It is my hope that those trained would put in all that is needed on their part to make the exercise a success”.
