NGO frowns at profiling street children as witches

The Senior Special Adviser on Technical and Maritime Operations to Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State, Arch. (Dr.) Eric-Williams Akpo (KSM) has described labeling of street children otherwise known as ‘Skolombo’ as witches or wizards as evil before God and humanity.

Architect Eric Akpo who is a stakeholder of MAY & FRANK AKPO FOUDATION, an NGO for Youth and Child Development on a mission to uplift the lives of hopeless child and mold them into better citizens in the society thereby reducing crime rate in the State.

He noted that most street children are victims of parental neglect and attitude of step mothers and fathers who see nothing good in their non-biological children hence the tendency to push them out of the home and parental care.

Akpo called on relevant authorities to proffer solution by showing love and care to these future leaders of tomorrow. And fielding questions from a Lens reporter, he disclosed as well that the NGO is funded by personal contributions and sacrifices by the board of directors and called on the government to assist them actualize their vision and dreams
